CIA WITH BA REMINDS PUBLIC TO BE STRATEGIC, TACTICAL ON SEEKING JUSTICE

‘CIA with BA’ reminds public to be strategic, tactical on seeking justice

“There are many ways to get justice…”

These words from Senator Alan Peter Cayetano resonated as he gave his final advice to Ken in the “Payong Kapatid” segment of the June 2 episode of ‘CIA with BA.’

Ken sought help regarding his former employer who had hurt his child. In February, Ken and his wife became stay-in workers and personally witnessed their child being punched by their employer, who didn't want their pet dog to be touched. Despite the abuse, Ken endured the situation because they desperately needed the money. In April, when Ken's wife got sick, it gave them a reason to leave their employment. However, after they left, their employer started spreading rumors, including accusations of theft.

Pia Cayetano assured Ken that he had the right to fight back. Since Ken was still emotional, she also advised him not to return to his former workplace but instead look for another job, with the program offering assistance.

Kuya Alan then enumerated the steps Ken could take: “You can file a criminal case for child abuse sa fiscal’s office or pwedeng complain sa pulis tapos dadalhin sa fiscal’s office. ‘Di na kailangang dumaan ng barangay ‘yan, more than one year ‘yung penalty niyan.”

“Secondly, kung sapat ang katibayan mo, lalo kung may witnesses or screenshots ka na siniraan kayo, whether ‘yan ay defamation or libel,” he continued.

“Pangatlo, kailangan ko pa ‘to pa-check ‘pag nag-usap kayo nung abogado, pero kung covered kayo nung minimum wage law, kahit pumayag or sinabing hanggang 400 lang, pwede maghabol kasi ‘yung empleyado sa backwages niya kung dapat binayaran ng tama,” he added.

“There are many ways to get justice. So kailangan minsan strategic ka rin. Pero I’d like to thank you for listening to our advice but I’d like to assure you, desisyon mo ‘yan, and either way we would like to help,” Kuya Alan noted to Ken and the viewers.

As the episode ended, the hosts reflected on the ‘Payong Kapatid’ segment.

“Usually ‘pag ‘Payong Kapatid,’ ine-expect natin, ito ‘yung facts, ito ‘yung kaso, pero [dito] makikita natin na ‘yung sinasabing ‘It’s complicated,’ hindi lang pala sa relationship ‘yon lalo ‘pag ‘yung problema, nagpatung-patong na,” said Alan. “Katulad ng parati nating sinasabi, ‘pag maliit pa lang ‘yung problema, i-address na natin.”

“Regardless kung ‘yung Civil Code or Data Privacy Act ang i-apply natin, it’s a reminder for all of us. Sabi nga ng Civil Code natin, it’s [a] basic etiquette, respect people’s privacy. Respect lang,” added Pia.

“Kailangan tactical din tayo. Kailangan hindi din tayo nagpapadala nang padalos-dalos, ‘yung mabilis.. kasi ang daming considerations so importante talaga na pinag-iisipan nang mabuti,” concluded Boy Abunda.

'CIA with BA' upholds the legacy of Senator Rene Cayetano, the esteemed father of the sibling senator-hosts. A distinguished lawyer, the senior Cayetano gained prominence through his radio and TV program 'Compañero y Compañera,' which aired from 1997 to 2001.

'CIA with BA,' hosted by Alan, Pia, and Boy, airs every Sunday at 11:00 p.m. on GMA7, with replays on GTV the following Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
