CIA with BA’ resolve conflict between families of teenage parents
“Let’s not lose sight of each other. Dapat visible po ang bawat miyembro ng pamilya sa bawat isa.”
This was how Boy Abunda concluded the episode of ‘CIA with BA’ on Sunday, December 8, after discussing a family conflict involving two teenage parents. The episode highlighted the challenges faced by young families, the responsibilities of family members, and the importance of open communication in resolving such issues.
In the ‘Case 2 Face’ segment, Rochelle raised concerns about Renz, the father of her grandchild with her teenage daughter, Miel. Her main worry was that Renz had not been fulfilling his financial responsibilities to support their child.
Since Renz is also a teenager, his mother Rhea and aunt Farrah, represented him on the show. They disputed Rochelle's claims, arguing that they had been providing support since Miel gave birth, including taking care of the child’s needs.
The situation became more tense when Rochelle stated that she would no longer allow Renz’s family to see her grandchild and threatened to put the child up for adoption. The conflicting views between the families caused further strain on their relationship.
Senator Pia Cayetano, along with her legal team, intervened, explaining that since both parents are still minors, it is the collective responsibility of the entire family to ensure the well-being of the child.
Senator Pia advised that Renz and Miel should not be together for the time being as they are not yet ready to assume full parental responsibility. Instead, she recommended that Rochelle focus on caring for Miel while Rhea and Farrah support Renz to prepare him for fatherhood.
The senator emphasized that although the child should stay with Miel, it is essential that Renz’s family continues to provide the necessary support for the child’s welfare.
Ate Pia also suggested that a written agreement be created outlining the responsibilities and commitments of each family member. She urged the families to stop using hurtful language as it only exacerbates their conflicts.
“It’s really a pressing concern worldwide and even in the Philippines, itong teenage pregnancies,” she noted. “Parang very timely ‘yung [appearance] nung dalawang pamilya dito. Naipakita ‘yung real situation na meron talagang mga teenagers na nabubuntis, sa madaling salita.”
She added, “And then it becomes an issue for the whole family, and we’re also hoping that it opens people’s eyes to the importance of having these honest conversations with young people to prevent teenage pregnancies from happening.”
The episode emphasized the importance of family support and responsibility, especially in situations involving teenage parents. By fostering understanding and communication, families can help their young members navigate the challenges of parenthood and ensure the well-being of the child.
‘CIA with BA’ continues the legacy of the late Senator Rene Cayetano and airs every Sunday at 11:00 p.m. on GMA7, with replays on GTV the following Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
